Machine Learning Engineer

Govchain is looking for a skilled machine learning engineer to join our team. You'll work on projects that leverage classification algorithms, OCR technology, and Language Models to solve real customer problems on a product used by thousands of South African entrepreneurs.
When someone with an idea wants to turn that idea into a formal business, they need to overcome a bunch of paperwork. Reducing bureaucratic friction would see more new ideas make it to the formal economy.

What you'll be doing
- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models for classification tasks.
- Develop and improve OCR systems for text extraction and recognition.
- Work on language models (e.g., GPT-4) to enhance language understanding and generation.
- Conduct research to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning.
- Optimize and fine-tune machine learning models for improved accuracy and performance.
- Create and maintain documentation for pipelines and models.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the team's knowledge-sharing efforts.
What you should have
- BSC Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
- Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Experience in working with classification models, OCR, and language models (LLM).
- Solid understanding of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
